Made For The Moment

From The Message: Foundations Part 3

“I want it now” is the cry of a generation. The fruit of patience has slipped from our grasp, as our fleshly desire to speed up the process takes over. You’d never see a tree or a caterpillar stress about growing quicker, yet this concept plagues us humans.

Any experienced tradesman will know that a rushed foundation is never a good one. This concept holds true in the Kingdom as well- your “wilderness years” of waiting are really years of building a strong foundation so that your life will not collapse when the storms come. We learn this deeply in the story of Joshua- the mighty warrior who led the Israelites into the Promised Land.

A wise man once said “you cannot lead unless you are first able to be led”. Joshua’s years of serving under the leadership of Moses are what prepared him to carry out this gigantic calling. He submitted to Moses’ leadership even when he was right and his leader wasn’t; God saw Joshua’s faithfulness and honored him for it. Here’s the truth- if Joshua didn’t spend 40 years under Moses building his foundation, he would’ve been crushed by his calling. Without his years of training he would’ve never learned to rely on the Lord when fighting the dozens of armies.

The Bible commands us to “wait on the Lord”. The modern conception of waiting is stillness, a lack of action. But waiting on the Lord is oddly similar to waiting a table; it’s constant learning and dedication those who you are serving. David was anointed king and still had to go back to tending sheep. Elisha served under Elijah for nearly a decade before he received his double portion. Joseph waited 13 years in chains for his prophetic dream became true. Waiting wasn’t stillness for these men, it was learning to depend on the Lord- building a foundation of faith!

• Without your waiting season your foundation can never be strong

• Waiting is not inaction, it’s growing where you’re at until God releases you to move forward

• There’s always a bigger blessing behind the door or waiting
