Step Into His Promise

From The Message: Just One Foot Away

Have you ever felt so close to something, yet it still seemed just out of reach? Perhaps you've been on the verge of a breakthrough, a miracle, or a long-awaited answer to prayer, but that final step seemed impossible to take. The truth is, you might be just one foot away from your destiny.

In the Bible, we find a powerful story of transition and promise in the book of Joshua. After the death of Moses, Joshua was called to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. This moment of change brings us to a profound truth: sometimes, what we perceive as an ending is actually the beginning of something greater.

The word "after" holds immense significance here. "After the death of Moses" wasn't just a statement of fact; it was the opening of a new chapter. In our lives, we often cling to what's familiar, even if it's holding us back. But God sometimes allows things to die – be it dreams, relationships, or seasons of life – so that there can be an "after." It's in the "after" that God introduces new purpose and prepares us for greater things.

This transition teaches us a vital lesson: we cannot see our future by constantly looking backward. The Israelites had to let go of their dependence on Moses to step into the promise God had for them. Similarly, we must be willing to release our past – both its comforts and its pains – to embrace what lies ahead.

God's word to Joshua was clear: "Now therefore, arise." This command wasn't just for Joshua; it's for all of us. How often do we remain seated – spiritually speaking – when God is calling us to stand up and move forward? Sometimes, our perspective changes dramatically when we simply rise to our feet. What looks impossible from a seated position becomes conquerable when we stand in faith.

The Jordan River stood between the Israelites and their promised land – a final obstacle after 40 years of wandering. It's a powerful reminder that often, the enemy will use small things to keep us from our breakthroughs. We may have overcome great seas, only to find ourselves hesitating at a seemingly minor river. But God's promise remains: "Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you" (Joshua 1:3).

This promise is an invitation to action. Faith isn't passive; it's active. It doesn't wait to believe; it moves in response to God's voice. When God says "now," it's time to move. We don't have the luxury of a leisurely stroll through our spiritual journey. The time for action is now.

Consider the story of Rosa Parks, who in 1955 refused to give up her bus seat, sparking a movement that changed history. Or think of the civil rights marchers who, in 1965, walked from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, facing violence and opposition but persevering for what was right. These examples from recent history echo the spiritual truth that sometimes, taking a stand – literally putting our foot down – can lead to monumental change.

In our spiritual lives, we're called to trample over our enemies – not physical foes, but the spiritual forces that seek to hold us back. The Bible promises that God will make our enemies our footstool. This isn't about violence; it's about claiming the authority and victory that Christ has already won for us.

So what's holding you back? What Jordan River stands between you and your promise? Maybe it's fear, doubt, past failures, or the opinions of others. Whatever it is, remember that you're just one foot away from crossing over. Your breakthrough, your healing, your restoration – it's all within reach.

Here's the challenge: Take that step. Put your foot down in faith. Declare that the obstacles before you will not prevail. Rise up from your seated position of comfort or despair and stand in the promise of God. Cross over your Jordan, whatever it may be.

Remember, faith doesn't wait for everything to be perfect. It doesn't require complete understanding. Faith acts on the word of God. Just as Joshua had to step into the Jordan before the waters parted, we too must often step out in faith before we see the full manifestation of God's promise.

As you contemplate this message, ask yourself:

  1. What "Moses" in my life needs to be let go of so I can move forward?

  2. Where have I been sitting when God is calling me to arise?

  3. What small "Jordan River" am I allowing to keep me from my promised land?

  4. In what area of my life do I need to put my foot down and claim God's promise?

The promise of God is clear: every place the sole of your foot treads, He has given to you. But you must take that step. You must arise. You must cross over. You're not waiting for God; He's waiting for you to move in faith.

So today, wherever you find yourself, know that your breakthrough might be just one foot away. Your miracle, your answer, your victory – it's within reach. Stand up. Step out. Put your foot down. Claim what God has promised you. For in Christ, we are more than conquerors, and every promise of God is "Yes" and "Amen" through Him.

Your Promised Land awaits. It's time to cross your Jordan and step into all that God has for you. Remember, you're just one foot away from your miracle. Take that step today.
